Diario Libre reports that Radhames Ramos Garcia, deputy of La Vega, was seen vacationing at a southeastern resort last weekend. Ramos had requested a 15-day medical leave of absence from the Chamber of Deputies. Despite having a well-documented case against him regarding the trafficking of 16 Chinese nationals with the help of his influence as consul in Haiti, 87 deputies voted to retain his legislative to keep him from standing trial. Only 12 deputies voted to remove his immunity. Diario Libre publishes a front-page photograph of the smiling deputy playing beach volleyball in Juan Dolio. Deputy Ramos admitted to having made more than US$1.5 million during his two years on the job for issuing visas.
