The Director General of the price control department of the Ministry of Industry & Commerce established yesterday that the price for fresh chicken was to be no more than RD$16 a pound. At his press briefing, Juan Bautista Villaman said that this decision was based on Article 9 of Law 13, which establishes the price control unit. Bautista Villaman said that he was obliged to take this step because chicken was selling at RD$20.00 a pound, while at the farm level the price was a mere RD$9.00 a pound. He furthermore warned that inspectors are sent out daily to see that the price levels are maintained.
