Good news from the UN

A report to be presented to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights next Monday praises the ?serious? efforts that have been carried out in the Dominican Republic to reduce poverty. The reports states: ?Taking advantage of the rapid economic growth of the last few years, the [Dominican] government has entered into an ambitious plan that is destined to better the conditions of the poorest sectors of the population.? The report was written by independent expert, A.M. Lizin, and cites the public housing, free electricity, micro-credits, and support for production and commercialization of produce generated by small farmers, as well as the efforts in the educational sector to break the vicious cycle of poverty.
