Diario Libre newspaper details the results of a Rumbo-Gallup poll,
which puts the popularity of the PLD in first place with 38.6 percent, and the PRSC in second place with 28.8 percent. The ruling PRD party
lags behind in third place with 24.5 percent, representing a 50-percent loss of support since their electoral victory in May 2000.
A breakdown of the results shows that the PLD is most popular among women voters, where they rated 41 percent, as opposed to 27 percent
for the PRSC and 22.7 percent for the PRD).
Meanwhile, all the papers report on the President’s comment yesterday that he could understand why people were concerned. This came in
response to the initial report of the Rumbo-Gallup survey that
estimated that 67 percent were dissatisfied with his ?style of government?. The President, however, focused on the international
situation, saying that the current economic crisis of the country was
a result of external factors and that this was what people should really be worried about. PRD president Hatuey Decamps dismissed the
recent poll data as unreliable.
