President Hip?lito Mej?a announced a meeting with leading business representatives to discuss the government programs that will go into effect when and if war breaks out between the US and Iraq. At the same time, the Sub-Commission on Finance of the Contingency Committee will be meet this afternoon to study possible ?shock? effects that a war scenario would impose on the local economy. A second meeting is scheduled for tomorrow morning with the banking sector. Today?s luncheon meeting will include the participation of the National Council of Private Business (CONEP), the Industrial Association of the Dominican Republic (AIRD), the Association of the Industrial Free Zones (ADOZONA), the Association of Brewers and the Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers, among others.
