Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Mel Martinez announced yesterday in Santo Domingo that his organization, along with the Inter American Development Bank (IADB), would contribute to housing development for low-income families. Martinez explained that HUD would offer technical assistance, as he delivered a promise that, through an existing agreement with the IADB, financing for housing in the DR and across Latin American would become easier to obtain. No figures were given to the press. In December of 2001, HUD inaugurated the housing development called Nueva Isabela II, started as part of the post-Hurricane Georges assistance package.
