Sosa hits his 500th career homerun

Sammy Sosa has been featured consistently in Dominican tourism promotions abroad. After becoming last Friday, 4 April the first Latin American player to join the 500 home runs club of Major League Baseball, he may be again asked to go to bat to lure more US baseball fans to visit the land he loves best. At 34, Sosa has become the third youngest to join the 500 club. As he pushes up in the home run ranking, he is sure to get a lot more press. Actually, there are only four players that have more than 600 career home runs. These are Hank Aaron (755), Babe Ruth (714), Willie Mays (660), and Barry Bonds (611). Bonds and Sosa are the only players still active in the club comprised of 18 members with more than 500 homeruns each. Sosa hit his momentous home run off Cincinatti Reds relief pitcher Scott Sullivan in the seventh inning of a game the Cubs lost 10-9.
