Prime Minister Jean Chretien and family, and former US President Bill Clinton and family will be spending their Easter vacations in the Dominican Republic. Chretien joins hundreds of thousands of Canadians that have made the Dominican Republic their preferred Caribbean island. This is his first trip to the Dominican Republic.
Clinton, on the other hand, has become a repeat visitor after he first came to Punta Cana in January 2002 on his first holiday abroad after ending eight years as President of the United States. Since then, Clinton has probably been in and out five times.
News reports say that Chretien and Clinton will be staying in Casa de Campo in La Romana. They are also expected to visit and play golf in Punta Cana.
Clinton had already made a stopover in the Dominican Republic last week on a 33-country tour to promote efforts to fight HIV/ AIDS.
