Popular British TV series filmed here

The fourth series of the popular British TV drama, ?Auf Wiedersehen, Pet? is being filmed in Santo Domingo. Santo Domingo was chosen because of its close resemblance to old Havana, where the drama is set. ?The boys are in Havana, Cuba, rebuilding the British Embassy,? is the title for the fourth series.
The series first aired in 1983 and proved a huge hit, to the point where it was nominated for a BAFTA award for Best Drama Series in the UK.
The inspiration for the first series came from the unemployment in Britain that forced the British to seek employment as bricklayers in Germany. In the second series, the boys were off to Spain for more building and drinking, and then onwards to North Africa.
The popularity of the series helped launch successful careers for the majority of the cast.
The crew is staying at the Hotel Embajador and filming was set to start after Easter mainly in the Santa Barbara square, between Isabel la Cat?lica and Arzobispo Meri?o streets, in the colonial city. Some scenes will be filmed in the whereabouts of the Botanical Gardens.
According to a report in the BBC, the fourth series? plot revolves around how with restoration in Cuba fast becoming a priority, the gang are employed – to rebuild the British Embassy in Havana. But that’s not their only mission. While there, one of the team is singled out to become a British secret agent and becomes ” Our Man in Havana “, following in the footsteps of Alec Guinness who played a similar role in the 1959 film from the novel by Graham Greene.
