Estrella announces campaign themes

Hoy reports that the PRSC?s presidential candidate Eduardo Estrella has announced his campaign priorities for the 2004 election. Controls on Haitian immigration, employment promotion in small- and medium-sized businesses, development of agriculture, tourism and free-trade zones, and reducing the national debt are among the issues he lists as central points for a future PRSC government. Estrella, who is yet to have his candidacy officially endorsed by the JCE (Central Electoral Board), expressed confidence that he would win the 2004 election, because according to him Dominicans want an end to the current economic crisis that has resulted from the overspending of the current administration. Estrella also invoked the memory of the late PRSC founder and former President Joaqu?n Balaguer, declaring himself a believer in Balaguer?s economic policies, which he described as a focus on the use of domestic resources and construction of important public works.
