Johnson & Wales in La Romana

The famous hotel and restaurant school Johnson & Wales is operating a school in La Romana in conjunction with Casa de Campo and a division of the Carnival Cruise Line corporation. The school plans to train as many as 2,000 students a year to work in the cruise line industry. The latest group of 101 graduates will take its initial voyage to Honduras, Costa Rica, Peru, Colombia and the Mediterranean. The school in La Romana will work with the Italian Costa Crociere lines, which operates another school in Manila, Philippines and a management-training center in Genoa. As a member of the Carnival Cruise Lines, Costa Crociere is the number-one rated cruise line of Italy and Europe, according to the note in today?s List?n Diario. Students at the Johnson & Wales School receive training as chefs, waiters, bartenders, maintenance personnel and even lifesaving. The practice areas are the same dimensions as the real ones in the different ships that Costa Crociere operates. One of the course?s graduates, Heidi Mendoza, said, ?it was like being in a real ship.? Mendoza was promoted to a supervisory position right after graduation because of her outstanding grades and attitude, representing a wonderful opportunity.
