While Listin Diario publishes a full-page spread on the benefits of x-ray screening and features an interview with representatives of ICSSI, Diario Libre’s editorial comment questions the practice of bodies such as the armed forces awarding these types of contracts. The government ordered the screening should be suspended to allow a study of the objections made by exporters. Local exporters have said they would not be interested in the screening services of the company even if the service were free because of the delay it would cause in the shipment.
El Caribe continues its focus on the legal dispute between the two companies who claim to have been awarded the contract, a subject to a legal case in the United States. The newspaper quotes Industry and Commerce Minister Sonia Guzm?n de Hern?ndez as saying she was aware that a communication had been sent to her by the Miami legal firm acting for one of the companies, which informed her of the controversy, but that she was not authorized to intervene in what she termed as “individual cases”.
