Baninter officials not transferred to Najayo

District Attorney M?ximo Aristy Caraballo ordered that the three accused in the Baninter case, Ram?n B?ez Figueroa, Marcos B?ez Cocco and Vivian Lubrano de Castillo, should not be transferred to Najayo prison in San Crist?bal province, as was planned yesterday. Aristy Caraballo met with B?ez Figueroa and his cousin B?ez Cocco at their current location — the detention center at the Palacio de Justicia de Ciudad Nueva. The two men reportedly asked that they should be allowed to remain in Ciudad Nueva for the time being. As well as security considerations, the DA cited practicalities such as easy access to the detainees by the judicial authorities, who must continue with their detailed interrogations.
Diario Libre reports that Central Bank lawyers ? Artagnan P?rez M?ndez, Ram?n Pina Acevedo, Carlos Salcedo, Jos? Lorenzo Ferm?n and Jorge Luis Polanco ? are seeking also to question other possible suspects in the Baninter case, whose names are not being released. The lawyers are on the trail of funds, goods and assets that were irregularly purchased as documented in the Baninter bank embezzlement case.
Meanwhile, Military chief Major General Jorge Zorrilla Ozuna has challenged the Central Bank to show him the list of the 70 generals mentioned in the Baninter case documents, who are alleged to have received money from the disgraced bank.
