Hoy newspaper reports that technicians from the Department of Agriculture of the United States are scheduled to travel to the Dominican Republic at the end of summer to install facilities needed to certify beef exports to the United States. Agriculture Minister Eligio J?quez and Deputy Minister Jes?s de los Santos met with US Agriculture Secretary Ann M. Veneman in Washington, D.C. earlier this week. Danilo Del Rosario, who is head of the Dominican Investment and Export Office, and who also was present at the meetings said the DR could be ready to resume beef exports to the United States this coming November. Exports have been suspended in 1984, a year when US$35 million was shipped. Del Rosario says expectations are that red meat exports could reach US$50-US$60 million in the first year of shipments.
