Jacinto Peynado said yesterday that the Social Christian Reformist Party (PRSC) has become a symbol and that President Hip?lito Mej?a has taken ownership of one of its slogans. As reported in Hoy, Peynado, who aspired to be the party?s presidential candidate in the 2004 election but lost out to Eduardo Estrella, says the party does not aspire to return to power. Peynado has accused his party of being an accomplice to the fraud that he says is behind Estrella?s victory in the primaries. ?The PRSC continues to be kidnapped by the PPH (Hipolito Presidential Project), and Mej?a has even usurped the slogans of the party founded by former President Joaqu?n Balaguer,? said Peynado in reference to the legendary ?a paso de vencedores? slogan. ?All they haven?t done is move into the M?ximo Gomez,? he continued, referring to the home address of the former statesman.
Peynado has secured the support of the influential Amable Aristy Castro, the secretary of the Dominican Municipal League, which controls funds for all city governments. Aristy told the press yesterday, as reported in El Caribe, that the Executive Commission of the PRSC made a very serious mistake by declaring Eduardo Estrella its presidential candidate and that the party did not take into account the objections made by the Jacinto Peynado group.
El Caribe reports that the Estrella?s candidacy has not met the expectations of many within and outside of the party. The newspaper mentions Estrella?s reserved style and the fact that he is not popular in many sectors, known to many as the ?mute candidate?.
The Central Electoral Board has yet to officially formalize Estrella?s status as the candidate for the PRSC party.
