President Mejia sure of assistance

Without going into details, President Hip?lito Mej?a said that the financial aid package from the United States and international organizations (Inter American Development Bank and the International Monetary Fund) was a done deal. He assured the country in a brief televised speech that the ?worst was over,? as he expressed confidence that outside funding would be forthcoming soon and would change the negative economic outlook. In his speech from the Presidential Palace, Mej?a said that a small commission would leave for Washington to finalize the details of the aid package. Central Bank Governor Jos? Lois Malkum and Technical Secretary of the Presidency Carlos Despradel will meet with officials of the Treasury Department, the Inter American Development Bank and the International Monetary Fund to discuss how to bring the needed assistance to the Dominican Republic.
