The Canada-DR Free Trade Agreement

Santiago Tejada Ecoboza, the head negotiator of the National Commission on Commercial Negotiations (CNNS), said that in two rounds of talks, a new Free Trade Agreement with Canada could be worked out. Tejada said: ?All we are waiting for is to set a date for them (Canada) to come to Santo Domingo for the first round of negotiations, and then set the date for the second round in Canada.? According to Tejada, the accord would be similar to that already in effect with Costa Rica, and only 15% of the details remain to be ironed out. The trade representative told the El Caribe reporter that some service and investment clauses have to be settled, as they are not covered in the agreement with Costa Rica.
