Leading poultry and hog producer associations published an advertisement today alerting the country and the government of their significant increases in costs. According to the 40 signatory associations and cooperatives, in the past 10 months input costs have increased as follows: Corn (RD$90-RD$190), soy (RD$180-RD$350), vegetable oils (RD$250-RD$585), diesel (RD$17-RD$31), bank rates (18%-38%), exchange rate (RD$17-28 to US$1), and power (100%-400%). In light of this, the producers feel that major price increases in their products are justified, or else they might risk bankruptcy.
