Tripartite Commission still in limbo

Monsignor Agripino N??ez Collado, the mediator of the Tripartite Commission that brings together government, private sectors and union representatives, told reporters yesterday that the committee has not yet reached an agreement on Article 165 of the proposed Social Security Law 187-01. Specifically, the debate is about the amount of people covered and the number of employees needed for the present Dominican Social Security Institute (IDSS) to keep functioning. After a three-hour meeting yesterday afternoon, the monsignor said that Dr. William Jana, the head of the IDSS, ?doesn?t know how many people the IDSS needs to survive.?
According to him, the tripartite committee favors maintaining the IDSS, but only if it provides competitive service with quality. According to the prelate, yesterday?s meeting only focused on Article 165, which establishes a double affiliation and the employee?s dismissal pension (cesant?a). The commission spokesman said that some progress had been reached on these points.
