Hoy newspaper reports that eight out of ten women giving birth at the Rosa Duarte Public Hospital in Comendador, the capital of the border province of El?as Pi?a, are Haitian. The director, Dr. Silie Paulino, said that the hospital has to spend 40% of its monthly budget of RD$200,000 to attend the the women who clandestinely cross the border specifically to take advantage of Dominican emergency room health services.
