IMF is strong medicine

US Ambassador Hans Hertell said yesterday that the IMF is strong medicine, but one that must be taken to obtain the financial aid necessary to ?rebound? from the crisis caused by the failure of Baninter. Hertell said that the US is confident the Dominican Republic will recover from its ailments, and that there is nothing to fear from an IMF accord. Hertell talked to the press at Ministry of Armed Forces, where Lt. Colonel David Naber, the out-going head of the MAAG, received an award. The ambassador said the US believes in the DR?s foundation and solid commercial principles, which will yield positive results. While his comments to the press were brief, the ambassador did express confidence that the financial aid package would be forthcoming.
