All set for the PLD primary

The Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) will hold its primary this Sunday, 29 June. The two leading contenders are former President L?onel Fernandez Reyna and former Vice President Jaime David Fernandez Mirabal, both of whom held closing events for their campaign yesterday. Fern?ndez Mirabal, of the ?Somos M?s? faction of the party, spoke out against corruption in his final push for the PLD presidential candidacy. He said that while government corruption has worsened with the present government?s administration, he said that corruption is a structural ill of the Dominican Republic and constitutes a crisis of moral destitution.
Meanwhile, former President L?onel Fernandez, in his end-of-campaign speech criticized that the International Monetary Fund had to be called in to impose a discipline that the government has been incapable of carrying out. Fern?ndez has campaigned under the slogan ?We Were Better Off Then?.
