The Organizing Committee for the Pan American Games must send 2,000 air tickets to judges, technicians, presidents of sports federations and special guests of the Panamerican Sports Organization (PASO). Given the devaluation of the Dominican peso, these airline tickets will now cost much more than originally budgeted.
In the 1998 agreement whereby the Dominican Republic committed itself to the undertaking of the Games, the country also agreed to pay for 11 tickets for each Olympic committee attending the Pan Am Games, and plans have been made for them to be lodged at the Hotel Jaragua. More than 5,000 athletes from 42 countries of North, South and Central America, as well as the Caribbean, are expected to participate in 41 sporting events, making it the third-largest multi-sport event ever held in the Americas.
