Hoy newspaper reports that Carlos Despradel, Technical Secretary of the Presidency, said that the monetary authorities chose to pay deposits of RD$500 million to government contractor Guaroa Liranzo to gain ?solidarity?, despite this being in violation to the banking law. Liranzo, a kingmaker within the PRSC political party, is also mentioned by political commentators as a leading supporter of President Hip?lito Mej?a. The money was reportedly deposited to the Baninter Trust bank of Cayman Islands.
