Vice President Milagros Ortiz Bosch says she will not resign as Minister of Education to dedicate herself exclusively to her presidential campaign for the 2004 election. She had said she would resign today.
During a ceremony at the Presidential Palace to honor teachers, Ort?z told journalists: ?You will have to wait, I am going to act in the best interest of the nation, not that of Milagros Ort?z Bosch. I will announce the decision when I reach an agreement with the President of the Republic,? she said.
The Vice President is the leading opponent to the re-election aspirations of President Hip?lito Mej?a. Ort?z Bosch spoke at the end of the Teachers Day event in which President Mejia praised her work at the helm of the education department.
