PASO officers inspect venues for Games

List?n Diario reports today on the visit of Panamerican Games Sports Organization vice president Michael Fennell and secretary Felipe Mu?oz and their impressions regarding the venues that will be used for the Games. The newspaper hints that the visiting officials were not pleased by the environs of the Olympic Center, that show the center is under intense construction and reparation work, nor about the delays at the Equestrian Center and the San Cristobal football field, the precision shooting center at Sans Souci and the Volleyball Center. The executives also expressed concern that the main water pipes had not been connected into the athletes village. But they were pleased with advances at the aquatics complex and several of the venues built at the East Park Center. Leonardo Macarrulla, spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works which is in charge of most of the constructions, told the List?n Diario that he trusts the venues will be completed in time for testing. He said that the most delayed one is the football field in San Crist?bal, but was optimistic it too would be ready on time.
Because of the attractive geographic location of the Dominican Republic, a record attendance to the games is expected, and there is a registration of more than 7,700 athletes from 42 countries.
