FIFA opens first phase of program in DR

Trinidadian Jack Warner, the vice president of FIFA (International Federation of Football Associations), was in San Crist?bal yesterday, west of Santo Domingo, to open the football (soccer) field built under the Goal Programme, initiated by FIFA president Joseph S. Blatter. The DR is participating in the program that will make up to US$5 million available to develop the sport here. Keith Look Loy, representative for FIFA for Central America and the Caribbean, also visited for the initiation of the first phase of the program, which called for an investment of US$400,000 in the new football facility that will become the training center for national teams. The List?n Diario reports that the facility, located on Avenida 6 de Noviembre, on the outskirts of the city of San Crist?bal, will open for training following the Pan Am Games.
