JCE awaits decision by Senate

According to reports in most of today?s press, the Central Electoral Board (JCE) is awaiting the decision by the Senate on who is to become the new president of that entity.
While Luis Mera ?lvarez, the former president?s substitute, has made known his wish to take the job, he has told the Senate that he would abide by their decision. The date for the next meeting of the remaining judges on the board has not yet been set, nor has any agenda been discussed.
This afternoon, the PRD senators will meet to discuss their choice for the new leader of the JCE, and many observers cite Luis Arias as the favorite, with Luis Mera ?lvarez likely to become a full electoral board member, rather than a substitute.
Meanwhile, the head of the administrative chamber of the JCE, Nelson G?mez, reaffirmed that the process to prepare for the 16 May elections is going forward according to the work plan set out months ago.
