Survey shows dislike of legislators

In the English language we use the superlative in only the most extreme instances. Today?s Diario Libre leads with a report on the latest Gallup-Omnimedia poll, which puts legislators, in general, in the category of ?worst? among the population. A full 83.6% of those surveyed gave the legislators extremely poor grades, and considered them to be looking out for themselves, not their constituents. Only 11.2% of the respondents felt that the legislators were doing their job. According to the poll, legislators go to Congress to work in politics and to get rich. They do not maintain contact with the community and there is little pride in them.
People in the South of the Dominican Republic gave the legislators a 17% approval rating and a 78.8% disapproval rate, while in the North 85.3% voiced disapproval. Citizens of the National District (Santo Domingo, the capital) gave an 85% disapproval rating, while people in the East who disfavor the lawmakers are 83.3%.
According to the Diario Libre, these figures are cause for alarm. Not even party affiliation tempers the statistics on those convinced that their representatives in Congress seek primarily to increase their wealth and play politics. Those who share this belief among ruling party PRD members numbered 70%, among PRSC members 86.6% and among PLD members 87.8%.
