ANJE challenges Sanchez Baret to list names

Following a statement reported in yesterday?s DR1 news, made by director of customs Vicente S?nchez Baret, which referred to his possession of a list of tax evaders, the Association of Young Entrepreneurs (ANJE) has challenged him to publish it. ANJE also requested that the authorities publish a list of those who comply with their tax payments. The association?s president, Marisol Vicens Bello, told reporters yesterday, ?It should not be necessary for us to ask that the list of evaders be published, because it is the authorities? responsibility to put into action all the legal mechanisms to punish those who do not comply with the law, without exception.? Vicens reminded the authorities that ANJE has made similar demands on several past occasions. She added that the government could increase its income by following up on tax evasion cases, but that political will was necessary for this to happen. The main editorial in Hoy newspaper supports ANJE?s stance, saying that the revelation of offenders? identities should be part of a normal legal process, not a political point-scoring tactic.
