President Mejia meets with farm group

President Hip?lito Mej?a met yesterday with the Dominican Agribusiness Board (JAD) and promised that the proposed 5% tax on exports would last only until December of this year. The President also let it be known that the removal
of the surcharge was not entirely up to him. George Mansfield, the president of the JAD, said the agricultural sector, however, does not condone the announced surcharge on exports of goods and services, as it affects the competitiveness of exporters.
However, Mansfield said, his group would make the ?sacrifice?, provided it was temporary ? unlike other measures of the past that were meant to be transitory and are still on the books.
