Debate over Listin Diario heats up

Lawyers for the Central Bank and the Superintendence of Banks argued that it was not possible to return the List?n Diario newspaper to Ram?n B?ez Romano, as ordered by Judge Samuel Arias Arzeno last week. Meanwhile, B?ez
Romano?s lawyers are asking the Inter American Press Association (IAPA) to send a mission to the Dominican Republic to verify the charge that the authorities have acted in contempt of the court. B?ez Romano?s legal counsel also said that they would
go to the United States to denounce the proceedings. The government representatives are arguing that the judge?s decree, while definite, is not irrevocable, and an appeal has been filed, thus obliging the ruling to be put on hold for the time being.
