Teach abroad

The US Embassy says the deadline to apply for the 2004 Fulbright Foreign
Language Teaching Assistant Program is 15 January. The program recruits and
places approximately 100 fellows in US universities and colleges for one
academic year. FLTA fellows are expected to teach two classes and are required
to enroll in at least two US studies and/or ESL methodology classes per
semester. The recruits typically live in language dorms and participate in
language clubs or language tables. Applicants must be teachers of English or
training to become teachers of English. They should possess by August 2004 the
equivalent of a US bachelor?s degree. Fluency in English is mandatory,
demonstrated by a score of no less than 213 (CBT) or 550 (paper-based) on the
TOEFL. Applicants must display maturity, reliability, integrity and
professionalism. Candidates must be between 21 and 29 years of age at the time
of application. FLTA fellows receive a monthly stipend, health insurance and
travel support. US host institutions provide tuition awards to support the
