The daughter of Armed Forces Minister Jose Soto Jimenez declared that a bag containing her jewellery as part of her travel luggage was stolen. Claudin Soto Thormann had arrived from Madrid, Spain, on board an Iberia flight. She said her lost gems are worth more than half a million pesos and that she noticed they were missing when she got home and unpacked. Army J2 investigators are looking into the case. As reported in Diario Libre, Soto had told the flight attendant about the contents of the bag at the Barajas International Airport in Madrid. Reportedly, the flight attendant said the bag would be identified with a security tag for greater protection and stored in the same compartment as the pilot’s and flight attendants’ luggage. Soto claims that the flight attendant handed the bag to an employee of the Salon de Embajadores, the VIP hall at the Las Americas International Airport, who later delivered the bag to the family chauffeur who was to drive the young woman home. Hoy newspaper says that there is speculation the theft could have occurred in the Barajas airport of Madrid because the bag arrived with its security tape intact.
