Key electoral dates

El Caribe newspaper lists these key deadlines for the electoral process:

20 January: Opening of presidential election campaign.

26 January: Deadline for registration of expatriate voters abroad. The JCE hopes to register 30,000 Dominicans to vote in Canada, US, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and Spain.

3 February: Meeting of the JCE to approve the final list of political parties that will participate in the election. There are 21 parties approved, and another 14 that have requested approval.

17 March: Deadline for political parties to register their candidates, one per organization, as per Electoral Law 275-97. There is a bill in Congress that seeks to reform this provision.

7 May: Deadline for voting card centers to receive requests for registration and changes in data not for electoral purposes.

14 May: Deadline for issuing voting card duplicates and end of the presidential election campaign.

16 May: Election Day.

27 June: Second round, if needed.
