Big decisions for SCJ ahead

Former Attorney General Francisco Dominguez Brito is paraphrased in the Listin Diario as saying that Subero Isa has made a great effort and has had to swim in many difficult waters and his resignation would be a blow to Dominican democracy. He said that were he to leave now, his departure would coincide with many transcendental decisions. Among these is the Supreme Court’s upcoming study on whether current electoral law violates the Constitution. The Group of Three PRD pre-candidates, who disputed President Mejia’s PRD candidacy, feel that the legislation cannot facilitate a person to run for President if in contradiction with the Constitution. The three want the Supreme Court to rule so that presidential hopefuls can run for an independent party that need not meet requirements in place for political parties today.
