Peynado about-turn on Ley de Lemas

Jacinto Peynado now says that if the Ley de Lemas goes through he will stand as a second PRSC candidate in the Presidential elections. Contradicting previous reports of his position on the issue several days ago, the former Vice-President and unsuccessful Presidential candidate said that he was “in total agreement” with the proposed law. Speaking in a telephone interview from Miami, where he is receiving medical treatment, he told the Listin Diario that many PRSC supporters feel “frustrated” at Eduardo Estrella’s candidacy, and that this law would provide an opportunity to support someone they felt represented them, instead of abstaining or voting for another party’s candidate. Peynado was defeated in the PRSC primary last year, and has maintained that fraud was responsible for Estrella’s victory.
