The Gigantes de San Francisco, former Major League player Stanley Javier’s rookie team and undeniable underdogs, defeated the league champions, the Aguilas Cibaenas, earning themselves the right to do battle next against Santo Domingo’s Licey Tigers in the finals of the Dominican Winter Professional Baseball League. The winner of these finals will represent the DR in the Caribbean Series that opens in Santo Domingo on 1 February. The Gigantes, managed by legendary Miguel Dilone, defeated the Aguilas 3-2 yesterday to a full house at the Julian Javier Stadium in the northeastern city of San Francisco de Macoris. The finals begin tonight with the Licey vs. Gigantes game scheduled for 8 pm at the Quisqueya Ball Park in Santo Domingo. To follow the games, see
