Support for Subero Isa

The news that Supreme Court Chief Justice Jorge Subero Isa has been under pressure to resign has rallied support from diverse quarters exhorting him to resist the coercion and remain in his post. Civil society organizations, the Church and the opposition PLD, as well as the ruling party PRD, have all asked Subero Isa to stay on at the helm of the Supreme Court, although, as El Caribe newspaper points out, various motivations are at play. The Foundation for Institutionalism and Justice (FINJUS) said that it would be a “serious reversal” should Subero Isa resign. Participacion Cuidadana’s coordinator Miriam Diaz said that she did not exclude the possibility that the current political structure was putting pressure on the Supreme Court judges, and that the last thing the country needed was a crisis of the judicial system.
