The Listin Diario reports that the chief justice of the Supreme Court has conditioned his staying on the bench to a vote of confidence by two-thirds of his fellow Supreme Court judges. On several occasions, Jorge Subero Isa has said that he would leave the highest court if and when he felt he had lost the trust of his peers or of society in general. While organizations such as FINJUS (Foundation for Justice and Institutionalism) called for Subero Isa to remain on at the helm of the court, reporters Ramon Benzan and Ariadna Vasquez German reminded readers that in a very heated scene in the courtroom last week, one of the judges hurled serious insults and accusations at the chief justice. Since none of the other 12 sitting judges present at that time bothered to refute the allegations, Subero Isa threatened to tender his resignation.
