Dominican film producer Angel Muniz of “Nueba Yol” fame wants to repeat the local box-office success of his “Perico Ripiao” film in Puerto Rico and mainland US. In an interview with Hoy newspaper, he said that he has already recovered the US$1-million investment made to produce the film in the DR, and that movie houses continue to successfully show the production as word-of-mouth brings more and more people to the theaters. He said that Puerto Rico would be the first stop abroad for the film this February and that he has reached an agreement with the company that promotes the Santo Domingo-Puerto Rico ferry. Muniz said he expects the film to open on 26 March in New York at 12 cinemas. The comedy is a satiric critique and parody of life in the Dominican Republic, with star roles held by popular Dominican TV comedy actors.
