Caribbean Series

The Dominican Dream Team continued its steamrolling of the opposition, as it took a ten-inning game from Venezuela by 4-3. Mendy Lopez (Kansas City Royals) had the golden hit that left the Venezuelan team all by themselves on the playing field. Lopez got his hit against the sensational Venezuelan relief pitcher Francisco Rodriguez, who had been practically untouchable up until the last pitch. The Dominican Republic is now 3-0 and in first place, one game ahead of Mexico, which beat Puerto Rico 2-1 in the first game yesterday. All-star shortstop Miguel Tejada, now of the Baltimore Orioles, awoke from his lethargic start in the series to double in one run and went a yard for another. Israel Alcantara produced the other DR run before Lopez sealed the victory in the tenth. Salomon Torres started for Licey, the team representing the DR, and went four and a third innings, giving up three runs on six hits. From then on, Sosa, Mota, Rodriguez and Beltran held Aragua scoreless. For more on the Caribbean Series schedule, see http://www.dr1.com/calendar
