El Caribe newspaper writes today on the collapse of the governmental public school breakfast program. While the Education Ministry had promised to make payments to its suppliers by this Monday at the latest, the funds have not been forthcoming and suppliers have not resumed their distribution of juice and milk products. El Caribe reporters said that when Deputy Minister Julio Espaillat was asked about it, he sent his assistant to respond on his behalf with a message that he was not in the mood to discuss that subject. The school breakfast program is one of the most important social programs because it serves as a major incentive for impoverished parents to send their children to school.
