Caribbean Series update

Mexico confirmed yesterday why it was considered one of the two favorites (the other being the 2003 Series champions, the Dominican Republic) to win the 2004 Caribbean Series. The Mexican team held the DR at bay 1-1 through the 10th inning, with the first runs arriving only in the 6th inning. But in the 10th inning, the Dominican dream team took off, with Dominican catcher Sandy Martinez slamming a homerun on his first turn at bat.

If the Dominican Republic defeats Venezuela tonight, it wins the Series regardless of what happens in the final Friday games. Mexico still has a slight chance to win the series if it beats Puerto Rico in today’s 4pm game and the DR loses against Venezuela in the 8pm game. In that event, there would be a tie for first place, and a Saturday showdown game would have to be played. For more on the games and the rosters, see
