Vice President “saw PRD standoff coming”

Vice President and PRD pre-Presidential hopeful Milagros Ortiz Bosch met with President Hipolito Mejia at the Presidential Palace yesterday, where, according to Ortiz Bosch, education was the main subject of discussion. While the VP also doubles as Education Minister, she has delegated her ministerial duties while engaging in her political campaign. Speaking after the two-hour meeting, she said that no one should be surprised, least of all the PPH (President’s supporters), at the current hostilities, which have led to clashes outside the party headquarters between loyalists of ousted party president Hatuey Decamps and the PPH. Ortiz Bosch revealed that she would make an announcement clarifying her position on this issue later today (Thursday). The Ministry of Education is in dire financial situation. For instance, milk and juice suppliers of the public school breakfast program have suspended dispatches, claiming a RD$300 million debt to resume supply.
