The Grupo M free zone factory located in Juana Mendez, Haiti was attacked yesterday by masked gunmen who attempted to enter the factory. The masked men were repulsed by members of the Haitian police and the factory’s own security guards. The Dominican military have reinforced the frontier region and a rapid response team under Major General Rafael Florian Florian was assigned to patrol the region. The attack comes on the heels of the murder of two soldiers near the factory last Saturday. Army Chief of Staff General Zorilla said that Saturday’s attack was a trap, according to his comments to the Listin Diario, and probably not the work of Haitian rebels. According to Zorilla, the two soldiers were tricked into going nearly a kilometer from their post and were killed for their weapons. The killers fled into Haiti, which makes their capture much more difficult.
