Jaquez offers Fello and Milagros “anything”

Eligio Jaquez, as President Mejia’s campaign director and Minister of Agriculture, offered PRD leaders Rafael Subervi Bonilla and Vice-President Milagros Ortiz Bosch “anything they want” for their return to the PRD folds supporting the election campaign of President Mejia, as reported in El Dia newspaper. Jaquez said that they have yet to choose the vice-presidential candidate and could offer it to either of the two. Both in press statements have rejected the offer that has been made in the past. Jaquez nevertheless urged them to not waste any time and make their proposals quickly so that President Mejia and his team can study them and have them integrated into the re-election campaign. Although during the primary whereby Mejia was chosen as PRD presidential candidate and party president Hatuey Decamps was ousted, the PPH faction of the PRD left party secretary Rafael Subervi Bonilla at his post. “Anything they want, we do not have a book written nor a concrete proposal, but there has been lots of communication going around, in many ways,” he said. Jaquez announced his resignation from his post as Agriculture Minister to dedicate himself full-time to the re-election of President Mejia.

Jaquez is optimistic Mejia will win the presidential election in a second round. A recent Penn Schoen poll showed Mejia in a distant third place, however, with 13% of the electorate’s favor, coming in behind Eduardo Estrella of the PRSC with 16%, and Leonel Fernandez of the PLD with 65% in the first round.
