The Listin Diario carries a beautiful photograph this morning of a winter wonderland – in Valle Nuevo, Constanza! The fairly rare event covered the ground with what looked like snow as the trees were weighed down with huge accumulations of ice. Pictures depict small pine trees doubled over under the ice and the ground looking like a scene from Vermont or Northern Ontario, with a blanket of white over everything. While this is not a daily occurrence, according to meteorologist Francisco Holguin, it is a normal occurrence in Constanza, Hondo Valle and Alto Bandera and occurs when an active storm system comes into contact with the very cold temperatures of the high mountains. The picturesque scenes only last a few hours in the tropical sun.
