ANADEGAS, the gasoline retailers’ association, will stage a two-hour boycott tomorrow, Thursday, in protest of what they consider insufficient profits within their sector, according to Hoy newspaper. An additional measure by the association will entail a freeze on all purchases and reception of tanker trucks, as of 12am, Monday, 1 March. The gas stations will continue to sell product until their supplies are depleted. Any tanker arriving after the cut-off time will be turned away. The allegations of unprofitability made by the ANADEGAS spokesperson reflect an increase of 117% in diesel fuel profits for fuel wholesalers, for example, while retailer profits have increased by only 58.4%. The retailers also complain that the petroleum companies favor their company-owned stations, while the independent retailers are left to suffer a lack of product during periods of scarce supply. Distribution company-owned stations will remain open.
