Hipolito to follow in Aznar’s footsteps?

Ousted PRD president Hatuey Decamps forecast that what happened with Spanish head of government Jose Maria Aznar in the political storm following the terrorist attack of 11 March would happen to President Hipolito Mejia on 16 May. Decamps is vice-president of the Internacional Socialista, a movement affiliated to the Partido Socialista Obrero Espanol, whose candidate came from behind to win the Spanish election on Sunday. The Aznar government originally accused the Basque group ETA of the train blasts that killed over 200 people, but there was no proof of their involvement. “I would like to indicate that telling lies has its costs, just as it does in this country, as when [Hipolitio] said 82 times he would not run again for President, but later accepted, and as when [Hipolito] says other things that do not correspond to the truth, things that are later denied – these things carry a sentence with the population,” Decamps said, as reported in Hoy newspaper.
